Zip is 16 month old Shepherd mix that my sister, found shot and abandoned in a Post Office lobby in Tallahassee Florida. The Post Office was closed, only the lobby was open and some heartless person had dumped Zip there to die. My sister, being the kind soul that she is, took Zip to a local vet where she was taken care of. My sister then brought her to her home where she continued to rehabilitate.

Unfortunately around Thanksgiving, my sister found out that her husband had been severely abusing Zip. Beating her unmercifully. Fearing for Zip and her life, she called me here in New York State asking me if we could take Zip into our home to save her from her husband's abuse. Not wanting to turn her into a shelter in Florida, because they are all kill shelters down there.

We arranged for a rescue transport from Lake City, Florida to Allentown, Pa. just before Christmas time and brought her home here with us In Canisteo. We all ready have 2 dogs that we have had for years.

Recently my husband underwent heart by-pass surgery and hasn't been doing too well. The other 2 dogs have entered their golden years and are quiet and reserved. However, Zip, being only 16 months has a lot of energy and we find as an older couple, we just can't handle a young dog, plus our house is just not large enough to accommodate 3 dogs.

I can not bring myself to turn Zip into our local pound. After agreeing to take her in, I would just die inside seeing her put into a pound cage. So, in closing, I was wondering if there was anyway to get assistance in getting her adopted by some nice family that would give her the attention she needs. I can send pictures and if anyone wants to meet her, I can bring her to your rescue. The adoption fee you would charge, of course, would go to your organization At least that way, we would absorb the cost of her care and you wouldn't be burden with that.

She has all ready been spayed and is up-to-date on all vaccines. She could not be transported interstate without all her paperwork being in order. I have only advertised her at our local Vet, feeling that if someone saw her picture at the Vet's office, at least they are conscientious owners bringing in their other animals for care. So, far I have had no luck.

If you can be of any help, even if we might have to surrender her, I would sure appreciate it. Most of the hard work has been done with Zip...she just needs someone with more time than we have.

Thank You...Mrs. Helen A. Sawyer
